About Cort Dennison

Cort Dennison is a football coach with years of experience. Cort graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in communications in 2011. At the University of Washington, Cort played linebacker, was a 2010 Holiday Bowl Champion, and was team captain during his senior season. Cort also had a 2011 Alamo Bowl appearance, was named the teams most outstanding defensive player (2011), was Second-team All-Pac-12 as a linebacker and led the Pac-12 in tackles in 2011 with 128.

In the time since his collegiate football career, Cort has expanded to hold coaching roles at a variety of institutions. Cort Dennison was a linebackers coach at Edmonds Woodway High School and a defensive graduate assistant for Western Kentucky University. Cort eventually joined the University of Louisville as a defensive graduate assistant (linebackers), where he quickly became the director of on-campus recruiting. Cort later received his master’s in sports administration in 2015, which set the foundation for more coaching and leadership opportunities.

At the University of Louisville, Cort Dennison would go on to hold several positions with the college’s football organization. Cort was the assistant secondary coach and recruiting coordinator, inside linebackers coach, and co-defensive coordinator. Cort was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2019 and served in that role until 2021. He also served at the University of Oregon as an outside linebackers coach, where he assisted the team with defensive strategy and became 2018 Redbox Bowl champions.

Cort Dennison’s coaching career is underlined by a commitment to helping teams refine their skills and achieve success. Cort has personally recruited and trained top talent in college football, the likes of which include Linebackers Xavius Boyd (2013 Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year), Andrew Jackson (second-team All-Sun Belt honors), Lorenzo Mauldin (2014 All-ACC first team, third-round pick by the New York Jets in 2015 NFL Draft), Safeties Jaire Alexander (All-ACC second-team honors, drafted by Green Bay Packers in first round of 2018 NFL Draft) and Josh Harvey-Clemons (All-ACC second team honors in 2016, drafted by the Washington Football Team in seventh round of 2017 NFL Draft), and more.

During Cort’s tenure with University of Louisville, the team was 2015 Music City Bowl champions, 2019 Music City Bowl champions, and made appearances in the Belk Bowl (2014), Citrus Bowl (2016), TaxSlayer Bowl (2017), and First Responder Bowl (2021). For his contributions to defensive coaching, Cort has been recognized by 247 Sports’ 30 Under 30 list (2017), AFCA’s 35 Under 35 list (2017), ESPN’s 40 Under 40 list (2018), and as the Pac-12’s second recruiter by 247 Sports (2019).

Most recently, Cort Dennison served as a volunteer consultant for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he assisted the team with scouting reports, game-week preparations, and making improvements to the team’s defense and special teams. Cort is currently a consultant with the University of Utah. In both his coaching and consulting career, Cort is known for his belief that kindness wins out in leadership, his keen attention to defensive strategy as a means to win games, and his overall dedication to ensuring that student athletes have everything that they need to be successful in their roles.
